Career coaching. Who needs it?
If you’re working in the arts or education and you’re happy and fulfilled, you can stop reading now.
If you’re working in the arts or education and you want a more fulfilling life, better financial freedom, more time for yourself and your family, or to make a bigger difference in the world – if you’re at some sort of uncomfortable crossroads – you need career coaching.
So what happens in a career coaching session?
We dig
I listen to you and ask questions about you, where you are, who you are and what you love, and then together we co-create a new direction, targets and steps to get there. I push you in the direction you didn’t realise you already wanted to go.
OK, so that’s an investment in your time, money, energy and commitment. What is the return on your investment?
It’s both emotional and financial.
The emotional returns
The emotional return usually arrives first. If you follow the steps we co-create in your coaching sessions, you begin to feel more in tune, more connected, more yourself. There’s a feeling of freedom to do what you do, be who you are. Impostor syndrome fades and confidence in your abilities grows, because you’re just doing you. You attract the right people to you because everyone sees who you are.
And a gentle word of warning, you’ll also piss a few people off, because they don’t want you to succeed. You’ll know who they are, and you get to decide whether you’re going to keep them in your life or not.
You attract the people you want to work with, because like-minded clients are already looking for someone like you, and they get to see you. You get onto their radar. You become clearer, so your energy and influence spreads without you “working” at it.
The financial returns
Then the financial returns begin to appear. Your studio fills up with your favourite type of client and you can charge more. Or you achieve a new status in your college or accept a new job that suits you better. Your confidence and success allows you to drop the jobs that you struggle with and accept new work that fits your life better. And it’s not just financial, it’s time too – you often discover more time for yourself or your family, because your work life fits you better emotionally.
If this sounds unbelievable, these things have happened to many of my clients during and after our coaching sessions. They have the confidence, the focus and the support to streamline their careers, change jobs, get the roles they want, increase their private studio time, raise their game and organise their life more efficiently.
These profound changes usually take just three sessions to identify, confirm and embed. It often happens that people get a new viewpoint on themselves and their life within the first session.
Unique to you
Are you wondering if for you it’s better value to stay uncertain and keep plugging away at the career you understood you were supposed to have? But are you just doing what you’re told? One of the pluses of working in a career that doesn’t have a typical ladder or corporate structure is that you’re not limited to the pathway that other people tell you is “the only way”. You can create a pathway that is unique to you. I’ve done it, Gillyanne’s done it. Many of our Registered Teachers are doing it right now.
Over the past year (well, the past 62 years actually) I’ve been finding out who I am. The more I know who I am, the more I want to help others find out who they are. Not just giving yourself labels (“I’m a mum”, “I’m a singer”, “I teach”) but finding your deeper values, the person you are underneath. You can still be all those labels, but with a purpose. The world would be an amazing place if we all knew who we are and what we can contribute to it.
Those are my values at the top of the page. This is me. I recognise that person.
Would you like to recognise who you are?
